Siena

We had another latish start today, left the villa around 10am and drove straight to siena. We had no idea where we were going or what we where going to do. I knew there was walls and a Duomo but that was about it. Oh and that they have a big horse race every year in July. We followed the GPS most of the way and when we saw something that looked like a old wallso we parked and walked. Only walked 10km today..... whew. It is very cool walking into areas that you can see are OLD. We walked around and found the Plazza CAmpo its fairly cool has a big open area and lots of cool buildings around it. A nice pond off to one side. Then on to the Duomo, Duomo's are always very cool and this one was also very pretty to look at. The workmanship that goes into these buildings blows my mind. how they made the pillars that candy cane swirl with the tools they had??? We then walked on and on around this big walled area called Piazza Della Liberta. Very cool walled walk with an arena type thing in the middle. There was a cool pond area which they play recordings of what life would have been like in the 1300's etc  there was fish in these ponds which where hiding behind some arches. I took a pic of the sign that was there which explains it better. But the fish where very cool and purple looking and large!! There is also strange  shrines in different places one of them had half a face and a chopped of hand... funny thing to see infront of a church. The salami shops also like to put a pigs head out the front just to let you know they have dead meat inside... I don't mind eating the meat but not keen on seeing it as a whole leg with hair and mould....it just looks wrong.  there is one pic that shows the steep inclines that are around Siena.... the photos don't do it justice it is way steeper. Probably the best work out we have had yet. The calf muscles may be burning tomorrow. there is also a shot of the 'Lassie' style dogs all having a bath in what seemed like a public pond?? It was cool.

This picture for those that have not been to "Italy " is of Romulus and Remus 2 brothers who where found abanded in a basket on the side of a river by a she wolf. Story has it she raised the brothers and they went on to found Rome .. after Romulus killed his brother over it. This statue and pictures of it are all over italy... 2 kids suckling a dog... gross but its not my history....

We are having taco's for dinner tonight. Well as much as you can when the only taco ingredients other than salad are salsa.... it will be more of a ragu i think. Grocery stores or coops as they are called are confusing but saying that 70 euro for meals for 2 nights 2 bottles of alcohol a hair colour for sam and lots of snacks....there was 5 big bags. Loving the prices over here. We where spending about 110 euro a night for dinner out for the 4 of us, so this is a nice change cooking and shopping. We get to do it again in Rome too.. Missing all you guys.. we are over half way now so it will really start to go fast.
