Doges Palace and alot of walking

We had a private tour of the Doges Palace today and did the secret itineraries tour. Andrea' was a great guide, without him i think the Palace would have been very boring. The secret itinaries tour takes you behind some closed doors to some very special areas. We saw where Casanova was held prisoner for a year and a half the secret passage ways. The torture chambers and lots others. Unfortunately they are nazi's about cameras, i managed to sneak a few pics but none of the really cool art works on the ceiling and walls. The largest old world room without any exposed beams to support it. We saw the top of it and how it was supported. How they managed to work that out in the 1500's is beyond me. Very tricky. There is some pictures i was not supposed to take of the armour and a few art works. There is a golden staircase which is called that because of the gold edged roof, very spectacular!
We then walked and walked all over Venice, our goal was to get away from people and to see some of the other side of Venice, not just the major tourist attractions. If you think of the map of Venice as a fish we walked from the tail up the back of it ,to the head and then down the belly back to the tail.
I remembered to put the pedometer on after lunch and it got to nearly 9 km just in the afternoon!! We found more streets with no people in it and tried to get lost and succeeded a few times. it was a great day!! We had wine at lunch that at the first few sips was great none of the bad after taste, we got excited. but as soon as it cooled it tasted like yuck!!
Sam and I have given up trying , we seriously are not having any luck wine wise. Maybe we really should try to taste all the gelato flavours instead... way more achievable I think ;) We will see when we are at our agroturism in Tuscany its in the Chianti region and a working winery and olive oil farm. Anyways Florence tomorrow looking forward to it :)
