Colosseum, capuchin monks or friars

The colosseum tour was of the under ground sections and the upper level. We decided to do it last Friday so I booked the tickets online and paid for them. That meant instead of lining up around the whole place for a ticket you can skip the line and go for the shorter line. Way better!. The tour guide was not one of the better ones we have had ,but she got the job done and we now know more. It was cool being below where the gladiators got ready and seeing the view from the top was great too! We then walked to immacolata concezione church. Where monks used the bones to make works of art. It's really quite creepy most of the bones used where monks or poor Romans. There are 6 crypt and photos are really forbidden. I will tell you the names of the crypts and will take a pic of the postcard they give you. 1 . Crypt of resurrection.2. Mass chapel (no bones)3. Crypt of skulls .4.crypt of pelvis 5. Crypt of leg and thigh bones .6. Crypt of the 3 skeletons. Quite creepy really and its rumoured that over 4000 monks skeletons where used.  If you look close at the pic the bones are everywhere even the ceiling in patterns off all spines knees etc.the monks in the pic seem to muffled there faces are still almost visible..last day in Rome tomorrow so no more art and churches Sam and I are doing a shopping tour ! Yay you will be amazed at how our bags have multiplied..lol

Vatican museum

Wow what a day. We had a late start, cause we could :) took our washing to the dry cleaners since our washing machine is still broken.20 euro a load wow ! There is no coin operated one for miles we know this because the night before we walked for 2 hours trying to find one using google maps. Good news is Mr Eric who is receptionist for the apartment is going to re-imburse us. We had a walk around before getting on bus to Vatican museum. We should have had a tour booked for 3.30 our guide was a no show which sucked but I will review him accordingly on trip advisers etc. We still went in and it is quite a good time to go no lines to get in and not as many ppl. Sorry still can't get my camera pics on here. But will do it as soon as I can . The Vatican museum is quite spectacular, they did let us take pics until the sistine chapel, oops daz and I already got a heap before we got introuble.  Sam and I both got new bags from the knock off guys....lol they can change the badge to whatever brand you like ! Lmao.....so I now own a prada bag , which could have been Gucci funny funny but 10 euro it will get me home on the plane since our bags have grown since we left...will do an update tomorrow so I remember where to put pics

Rome

Having lots of probs posting the internet is slow as. Giving my phone all kinds of grief. We did the segway tour yesterday that was fantastic! The best thing we have done so far. Today is the Vatican will upload some pics as I take some with my phone. The others may have to wait till we get home. This arvo we do the after hours Vatican tour. This morning we stuffed around trying to get washing done. On our way to Vatican we will do the Spanish steps. We did the trevi fountain yesterday, cramped but pretty.

Our apartment in Rome

Well it doesn't look much from the outside and they are renovating the stairwell.but it has a nice interior and everything we need. Nice central location. He just needs to come back and fix the washing machine

Vesuvius

Bloody Volcano, Rickety bus to the top the you walk up and it wouldn't be so bad...but I forgot my puffer, and needed it. The walk was on an incline that was not pleasant and the bus gives you a time limit on when you must be back down to leave the mountain. Not my favourite day, but the others had fun. Sorry but for me it was an asthma attack with a walk with a hole in amountain as the reward.. lol not my best day but it was still fun in alot of ways. I got more of Connors bday present , some more pressies for Josh and more dang fridge magnets,... once i start on something i think i may be unstoppable...anyways if anyone wants to tour italy with us. come to my house an see my fridge when i return.. Will upload photos tomorrow when we hit rome. A big HAPPY BDAY to my most beautiful daughter on monday...17 wow who would have thought it!!  Big hugs and kisses and i will skype at 6am and dinner time so i see the cake.

The Isle of Capri

Ok I wont lie, the only reason I wanted to visit here was to see the Blue grotto... Apparently it only open 156 days a year. As you have to go through the mouth of the cave in a little boat and lie down to get in there. the algae in the cave makes the water glow blue. Wellllll it was closed today and had been closed for the last 3 weeks. Though if i was a tour guide i would tell ppl to go look at the water it is a spectacular blue without going into a cave!!! We got a taxi see first pic, and went to Anicapri to take a chair lift up the mountain to see some views wow!! You can see the whole island from here very pretty. We also had a few clouds go past us, so we where IN a cloud for quite same time, it was very cool in more ways then one. I took a pic of Sammy in a cloud. We also had a very interesting  boat ride around the island!!!! Wow was the water rough we where way to scared to be sea sick until we got closer to shore and the wind died down. We went through the lovers arch thingy and he made us all kiss... he was a fun tour guide even if we had to listen to it in a few diff languages. All and all i like Capri even without seeing the blue grotto. He showed us the green grotto...llol i imagine it was just as good...shhhhhh its alll i have. Apart from a fridge magnet !! :P

Pompeii

Pompeii was as we expected hot dry and dusty and alot of walking. lots and lots of walking on uneven paths with lots and lots of tourist. I would like most of these places more without all the tourists. We drove 5 hours and then got out and walked for 2  hrs... good fun for us lazy ppl. I am getting better at all this walking. Pompeii  was buried in ash on the 27 August 79AD. How precise is that!! it erupted and buried the town in ash and then the other stuff came and sealed it all in. Which actually preserved all the art works and wood. The bodies you see in some of the shots are actually moulds..  they filled the holes as they found them and found out what was sealed in the ash. anyways here is some pics look it up in a history  book if you want more info :P The hotel is great and so is the staff. The town itself is a small town that is built onto the side of a mountain and has city traffic... not fun to walk or drive in. We have had some good meals and some nasty.. As you do. i will do a quick catch up, 2 more posts!!
